Let's be honest, Travis and I have never owned a camper. We have been watching youtube videos to figure out how to safely tow it and how to turn on the oven. So we figured we should stay close to home for our first trip, just in case something goes wrong. We decided to head out to the largest island in the Great Salt Lake, Antelope Island. So we set out with the dogs and Edie in tow.
This is the island with SLC in the background. A herd of 500-700 bison live on the island, along with antelope, bighorn sheep, and deer.
We hiked around the island quite a bit before settling back in at the camp site. We cooked dinner on the stove and started a fire and drank some wine. We were able to see tons of stars since the only light was from ours and the other campers fires. It was very cozy! Then we turned in for the night and were sleeping very comfortably when we were woken up rather suddenly to the whole trailer shaking violently. As it turns out, a storm blew in over night bringing 40 m/hr winds. The shaking kept us awake from 2 am to 6 am. Travis will tell you that I fell back asleep for an hour, but I have no recollection of that. =)
We had a good breakfast planned, but were exhausted from lack of sleep. So we packed Edie up in the dark and headed home at 6:30 in the morning. We got some breakfast from Starbucks on the way home. Travis and I have realized over the years that our adventures tend to turn into misadventures despite all our planning, but it makes for a better story (I think).
