We have been watching youtube videos to figure out how to safely tow it and how to turn on the oven. So we figured we should stay close to home for our first trip, just in case something goes wrong. We decided to head out to the largest island in the Great Salt Lake, Antelope Island. So we set out with the dogs and Edie in tow.<br />

This is the island with SLC in the background. A herd of 500-700 bison live on the island, along with antelope, bighorn sheep, and deer.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We hiked around the island quite a bit before settling back in at the camp site. We cooked dinner on the stove and started a fire and drank some wine. We were able to see tons of stars since the only light was from ours and the other campers fires. It was very cozy! Then we turned in for the night and were sleeping very comfortably when we were woken up rather suddenly to the whole trailer shaking violently. As it turns out, a storm blew in over night bringing 40 m/hr winds. The shaking kept us awake from 2 am to 6 am. Travis will tell you that I fell back asleep for an hour, but I have no recollection of that. =) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We had a good breakfast planned, but were exhausted from lack of sleep. So we packed Edie up in the dark and headed home at 6:30 in the morning. We got some breakfast from Starbucks on the way home. Travis and I have realized over the years that our adventures tend to turn into misadventures despite all our planning, but it makes for a better story (I think). </div>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-C1dCZdTqGKg/VID9SC9y1TI/AAAAAAAABFY/jcCf40bIzJo/s1600/14%2B-%2B156" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-C1dCZdTqGKg/VID9SC9y1TI/AAAAAAAABFY/jcCf40bIzJo/s1600/14%2B-%2B156" height="420" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><b>Meet <i>Edie</i>!</b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Edie is our 1963 vintage camper that we got a few months ago. We decided once we moved to SLC, that we wanted to use our location as a way to travel around the western United States, and we figured the best and cheapest way to accomplish that would be to get a camper. So began the search for a vintage camper, mostly because they are MUCH cuter than the modern campers with much more character. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
After only a few weeks of scouring the internet, we got lucky and found Edie. Plus, the people who owned her happened to live just a few minutes from our house. I'm convinced it was fate. Of course, it definitely took some convincing to talk Travis into getting a pink camper named Edie (she came with the name). But look at her...how could he say no for very long? (that's rhetorical). So we brought Edie home and began planning our maiden voyage. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She sleeps 6 people (who really like each other) and came equipped with running water, electricity, and a stovetop and oven. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
We can't wait to start traveling! We did go on our first camping trip to Antelope Island, but that is a story for another time. We'll keep you posted!</div>
